In July 2019, my husband was away for my birthday. So, he surprised me with a spa experience at the Taj West End in Bangalore. He made an appointment for me at 10:00 AM. I was really excited as this was going to be my first spa experience. I absolutely had no idea what to expect. I reached the hotel by 9:30 AM. Taj West End is a five star property nestled amidst 20-acre lush green flora. Originally started by the Bronsons in 1887 as a 10-room inn, this property still carries the colonial charm! I enjoyed the short walk through the landscaped gardens leading to Jiva Spa, located next to the pool area.

Soon after I entered the reception area at the Spa, I was really impressed with the ambience. The vintage decor and the wall paintings take you back to the colonial times! After I mentioned I have an appointment in my name, the lady at the reception politely asked me to take a seat. After 5 minutes, they served me some herbal tea, which was amazing! Next, they asked me to fill in a pre-treatment health assessment form, which is basically a brief enquiry about my medical condition. This is important as they can modify the spa treatment you chose accordingly.

The best herbal tea I ever had! I had to fill the pre-treatment health assessment form.

After 15 minutes, the lady at the reception escorted me to the changing rooms. I was given a locker and a key to store all my valuables, including jewellery, mobile etc. I was strongly advised not to carry my mobile inside the spa room as it would be a distraction. They provided disposable spa wear and a robe. Next, I was asked to change and step inside the dark steam room followed by a sauna for about 15-20 minutes to help clear the skin impurities and get rid of toxins. I was then escorted to the Spa room. It resembled a palace room with high ceiling, chandeliers, huge mirrors and luxury decor! I was pleasantly surprised! I was assigned a trained therapist, a very polite and humble lady for my treatment. I was welcomed with a relaxing 10-minute foot massage with the best essential oils. The mood-lighting in the spa room with soothing music being played in the background create the perfect ambience. The treatment lasted for about 2.5 hours beginning with a full body exfoliation (with a natural scrub made of rice, honey and cream) followed by an oil massage. The 45-minute massage was so calming and I didn't realise when I have fallen asleep! After the massage, she used soft cotton to wrap my body and asked to rest for about 15 minutes. Next, I was asked to step into the shower to wash off the oil with some warm milk sprinkled with rose petals! This was a truly luxurious experience! Also I felt guilty for wasting a good amount of milk. Next time, I might just skip this part. My skin felt so soft, supple and naturally fragrant after the shower. And finally I was given a de-stressing facial massage with pure essential oils. This truly was the best ever spa indulgence!

After the treatment, it was late afternoon so I decided to order some lunch (not included in the cost). I ordered some grilled Tofu and fruit plate from their healthy lunch menu, costing me INR 1250 with taxes. Lunch was okay not great. I wouldn't recommend ordering lunch in the Spa. Instead, you can just go to one of their dine-in restaurants. I opted for their signature spa treatment "Sushupti", which costed about INR 10,000 including taxes (here.). It is expensive, but I felt it is worth the luxury you would experience at the Jiva Spa! You can definitely give it a try if you enjoy indulging in pampering sessions like me! And thanks to my husband for gifting me this wonderful spa experience!
